Stir Crazy Kidz is the dream of its founders, Chefs Margie and Judy, who come from varied backgrounds in education, business and law. Yet, they possess the same philosophy when it comes to cooking, kidz and food: Kidz can cook when given the right tools and opportunity. Kidz learn best while having fun. Healthy eating habits start early, nurtured by tasty and appealing snacks and meals – there are more flavors than “sweet”. It’s natural for Kidz to experiment. In the Kidz kitchen, they are given the formulas (recipes, skills and methods) and within an hour or two, they can brag: “I made it!”
Aside from pulling from their professional experiences, Chefs Margie and Judy are mothers, gourmet chefs, and believe in using fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. They grow fresh herbs in their GreenSpace garden. Kidz get to pick and use these herbs in recipes they cook. Sometimes “the exact menu” is a surprise because the chefs shop daily and market availability can vary. They teach Kidz how to choose a tomato, a good melon and the best season to buy different fruits and vegetables. The chefs also teach food handling, kitchen safety and nutrition.
All of this is done while preparing and cooking yummy dishes.
The chefs have the benefit of taking the advice of Chef Margie’s Kid (Mason): A graduate pastry chef of the Culinary Academy in San Francisco – also a great advocate of teaching Kidz to cook to increase their confidence. He comes up with the Best Kid Friendly Recipes to share with your Kidz.
